Hash Generator
SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 as you type.
About Hash Generator
Hash Generator produces SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 digests as you type, using the browser’s built-in Web Crypto API. Hashes are used to verify that data has not changed — the same input always produces the same digest, and any change produces a completely different one.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text.
- All four digests appear immediately.
- Copy whichever you need.
Questions
Why is there no MD5?
The Web Crypto API does not implement it, and it has been cryptographically broken for two decades — collisions can be generated deliberately. SHA-256 is the sensible default.
Should I hash passwords with this?
No. SHA is designed to be fast, which is exactly wrong for passwords — an attacker can try billions per second. Password storage needs a deliberately slow algorithm: bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2, run on your server.
Can a hash be reversed?
Not mathematically. But a short or common input can be found by guessing, which is why hashing alone does not make data secret.
Hash Generator is free and runs entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no watermark, no limit on use.
