About Timestamp Converter

Timestamp Converter turns Unix time into readable dates and back, and shows a live clock of the current Unix timestamp. It detects automatically whether you pasted seconds or milliseconds, which is the mistake that produces dates in 1970 or in the year 50,000.

How to use it

  1. Paste a timestamp or any date string, or press "Use now".
  2. Read it in Unix seconds, milliseconds, ISO 8601, local time and UTC.
  3. The relative line tells you how long ago or ahead it is.

Questions

Seconds or milliseconds — how do I tell?

Ten digits is seconds, thirteen is milliseconds. Unix uses seconds; JavaScript’s Date.now() uses milliseconds, which is the usual source of confusion.

Why is my date showing as 1970?

You passed seconds where milliseconds were expected. 1 January 1970 is the Unix epoch — a tiny millisecond value lands just after it.

What is the 2038 problem?

Systems storing Unix time in a signed 32-bit integer overflow on 19 January 2038. Anything modern uses 64-bit, which is good for roughly 292 billion years.

Timestamp Converter is free and runs entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no watermark, no limit on use.
