About Favicon Generator
Favicon Generator produces every icon size a website needs from one square image — 16px for the browser tab up to 512px for a phone home screen — plus the HTML to paste into your page head. Non-square images are centre-cropped. Getting these right is the difference between a crisp tab icon and a blurry smudge on a retina display.
How to use it
- Drop in your logo. A square image works best; anything else is cropped from the centre.
- Click Generate, then download the sizes individually or all at once.
- Copy the HTML snippet into your page’s head section.
Questions
Which sizes do I actually need?
At minimum 32×32 and 180×180 (Apple touch icon). Add 192 and 512 if you want the site to install as a web app on Android.
Do I need an .ico file?
Not any more. Every browser in current use accepts PNG favicons. ICO is only needed for very old versions of Internet Explorer.
Why does my favicon look bad at 16px?
Detailed logos do not survive being shrunk to 16 pixels. Favicons work best as a single letter or a simple shape — design one specifically rather than reusing the full logo.
