About Hijri Converter

Hijri Converter translates between Gregorian and Hijri dates in both directions, using the tabular Islamic calendar — the arithmetic version where months alternate 30 and 29 days on a fixed 30-year cycle. That makes it predictable and offline, but it is an approximation of the observed calendar, which depends on actually sighting the new moon.

How to use it

  1. Choose a direction: Gregorian to Hijri, or the reverse.
  2. Enter the date.
  3. Read the converted date with the Hijri month name.

Questions

Why does this differ from the date announced in my country?

Because the observed calendar starts each month on the sighting of the crescent moon, which varies by location and by the criteria a country uses. A one-day difference is normal and countries frequently differ from each other.

Can I rely on it for Ramadan or Eid?

No. Use it for general date conversion and historical dates. For religious observances follow your country’s official announcement.

Why is the Hijri year not simply the Gregorian year minus 622?

Because the Islamic year is lunar, about 354 days, so it drifts roughly 11 days earlier each Gregorian year. The gap between the two year numbers slowly narrows.
