Qibla Direction
Bearing to the Kaaba from anywhere, with a compass dial.
About Qibla Direction
Qibla Direction gives the compass bearing from your location to the Kaaba in Makkah, calculated as a great-circle bearing — the same method mosque apps use. A great circle is the shortest path across a sphere, which is why the correct Qibla from northern Europe points north-east rather than the south-east most people expect from looking at a flat map. The tool also shows the distance to Makkah and a dial you can align against north.
How to use it
- Press "Use my location", or enter your latitude and longitude.
- Read the bearing in degrees from true north.
- Point the top of the dial at true north — the arrow then points to Makkah.
Questions
Why does my phone compass show a different direction?
Phone compasses read magnetic north, which is several degrees off true north depending on where you are. In Jordan the difference is currently around 4–5° east. Use a compass app with a true-north setting, or subtract the local declination.
Why does the Qibla point north from Europe?
Because the earth is a sphere and the shortest route curves. On a flat map that route looks wrong, but it is the correct direction — the same reason flights from London to Tokyo pass over the Arctic.
Is my location sent anywhere?
No. If you allow location access the coordinates stay in your browser; the bearing is calculated there. You can also type coordinates manually and never grant permission.
