Zakat Calculator
Net wealth against the nisab, and the 2.5% due.
About Zakat Calculator
Zakat Calculator totals your zakatable assets, deducts immediate debts, compares the result against the nisab threshold and calculates the 2.5% due. Nisab is defined in weights of gold or silver, so you enter the current local price rather than the tool guessing — there is no live price feed, and a stale one would be worse than none.
How to use it
- Choose the gold or silver nisab standard and enter today’s local price per gram.
- Fill in your assets: cash, bank balances, gold, investments, business stock, money owed to you.
- Deduct immediate debts, then read whether zakat is due and how much.
Questions
Should I use the gold or silver nisab?
Silver gives a much lower threshold, so more people owe zakat — many scholars favour it for that reason, as it benefits recipients. Others hold that gold better reflects the original value. Follow your own school or ask locally.
Which debts can I deduct?
Immediate debts and overdue bills. Opinions differ on long-term debt such as a mortgage — most scholars allow deducting only the coming year’s payments, not the whole balance.
Why is it 2.5%?
It is the rate established for monetary wealth held for one lunar year. Different categories — crops, livestock, mined minerals — carry different rates entirely and are not covered here.
Is this a religious ruling?
No. It is arithmetic to help you organise your figures. Schools of fiqh differ on several points above. Check the result with a qualified scholar or your local zakat authority.
