About GPA Calculator

GPA Calculator works out your credit-weighted grade point average on the standard US 4.0 scale with plus and minus grades. Credit weighting matters: a B in a four-credit course pulls your average more than an A in a one-credit elective, which is why simply averaging letter grades gives the wrong answer. Add a row per course, enter its credit value and the grade you got, and the GPA updates as you type.

How to use it

  1. Enter each course, its credit hours, and the letter grade you received.
  2. Add rows with "+ Add course" until every course for the term is listed.
  3. Read your GPA, total credits and quality points at the bottom.

Questions

How is GPA actually calculated?

Each letter grade maps to grade points (A = 4.0, B+ = 3.3, and so on). Multiply each course’s grade points by its credit hours to get quality points, add those up, then divide by total credits.

My university uses a different scale — will this work?

Only if it uses the 4.0 scale with +/− grades. Institutions on a 5.0 scale, or that do not award minus grades, will not match. Many universities in Jordan and the wider region use percentage or 4.0 scales with different cutoffs, so check against your own transcript.

What is a good GPA?

Broadly: 3.7 and above is excellent, 3.0 to 3.7 is solid, 2.0 is the usual minimum to stay in good standing. Thresholds differ by institution and programme.

How do I calculate a cumulative GPA across several terms?

List every course from every term in one go. Because the calculation is credit-weighted, that gives the correct cumulative figure — averaging term GPAs together does not.
