About Study Timer

Study Timer runs the Pomodoro cycle: a focus block, a short break, and a longer break after every fourth session. Lengths are adjustable because the classic 25 minutes does not suit everyone — deep work often wants 50, and people struggling to start often do better with 15.

How to use it

  1. Set your focus and break lengths, or keep the 25/5/15 default.
  2. Press Start. The timer moves to a break automatically when the block ends.
  3. A long break replaces the short one after every fourth focus session.

Questions

Why 25 minutes?

It is the length Francesco Cirillo used when he devised the technique in the late 1980s, short enough that starting feels easy. There is nothing magic about it — adjust to what holds your attention.

Does it keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes, as long as the tab stays open. Closing it resets the timer.

Should I take the breaks?

Yes — that is the mechanism. Working through them turns it into an ordinary timer and the sustainability disappears.

Study Timer is free and runs entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no watermark, no limit on use.
