About Convert Format

Convert Format moves an image between PNG, JPG and WebP. WebP is usually the right answer for the web — typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality, with transparency support. PNG stays lossless, which matters for logos, screenshots and anything with sharp edges or text. JPG remains the safest for sharing with people on old software.

How to use it

  1. Drop in any image the browser can read — PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or BMP.
  2. Choose the output format. If converting to JPG, pick a colour to fill transparent areas, since JPG has no alpha channel.
  3. Click Convert and download.

Questions

Which format should I use for my website?

WebP for photographs and most images — it is supported by every current browser and is meaningfully smaller. Keep PNG for logos and anything needing crisp edges.

Why did my transparent background turn white?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the colour you chose. Use PNG or WebP to keep it.

Does converting lose quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG or WebP re-encodes at 92% quality, which is visually indistinguishable but not bit-identical. Converting repeatedly between lossy formats does accumulate damage.

Convert Format is free and runs entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no watermark, no limit on use.
