About Tip Splitter

Tip Splitter works out the tip, the total and what each person owes when a bill is shared. Preset buttons cover the usual percentages and the split is per-person rather than per-couple, which is what usually causes the argument at the end of a meal.

How to use it

  1. Enter the bill amount.
  2. Tap a preset tip percentage or type your own.
  3. Set how many people are splitting it — the per-person figure appears at the top.

Questions

How much should I tip?

It varies enormously by country. 15–20% is standard in the US, 10% is common in much of Europe and the Middle East, and in Japan tipping can cause offence. Check local custom.

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?

Convention is on the pre-tax total, though many people simply use the final figure. Enter whichever you prefer as the bill amount.

Is service charge the same as a tip?

No. If a service charge is already on the bill, an additional tip is optional — and worth checking whether the charge actually reaches the staff.

Tip Splitter is free and runs entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no watermark, no limit on use.
