About Engagement Rate

Engagement Rate divides total interactions by audience size, measured against either followers or reach, and grades the result against typical bands. The choice of denominator matters enormously — rate by reach is always higher than rate by followers, and people quoting impressive numbers are often quietly using reach.

How to use it

  1. Choose whether to measure against followers or reach.
  2. Enter the audience number and your likes, comments, shares and saves.
  3. Set the post count above 1 to average across several posts.

Questions

What is a good engagement rate?

Measured against followers: under 1% is low, 1–3% is average, 3–6% is good, above 6% is excellent. Smaller accounts normally score higher than large ones.

Followers or reach — which should I quote?

By followers is the stricter, more standard measure and the one brands usually mean. Always state which you used; the difference can be several times over.

Do saves and shares count?

Include them — they signal more intent than a like, and most platforms weight them more heavily in distribution.
